The Swedish Association for Research in Comparative Religion will hold the 11th Annual Conference at Södertörn University, Stockholm on 23-26 August 2012. Finyar will hold sessions together with ISSNR.

Invitation to the 2012 Finyar conference on Children in Minority Religions: Religious Upbringings

This year's Finyar conference adresses the situation of children in minority religions. We are pleased to present three of the most renowned international scholars in the field as key note speakers: Ph. D. Amanda van Dymaer van Twist (London School of Economics, UK), Professor Susan Palmer (Dawson College, Montreal, Canada) and Professor Emeritus Eileen Barker (London School of Economics, UK).

Katarina Plank defends her doctoral thesis at Universitet of Lund

Katarina Plank will defend her doctoral thesis Insikt och närvaro – akademiska kontemplationer kring buddhism, meditation och mindfulness June 3rdat 13.15 in the auditorium (room 206) in Universitetshuset. Finyars annual meeting for 2011 has taken place

Finyars annual meeting for 2011 took place the 18/3 at Stockholm University. The protocol is available here. The board wishes to welcome Anne Kalvig as our new commissioner. We would also like to thank Kristian Pettersson, who resigned from his post, for his time on the board.

Symposium 2011

The Donner Institute will arrange a symposium on Post-secular Religious Practises 15-17 June 2011 in Åbo, Finland. Information on registration and last call for papers is available on the institute's web site.

Further funding from the Swedish Central Bank for 2011 and 2012!

FINYAR has been granted further funding from the Swedish Central Bank for 2011 and 2012 to initiate a Nordic network (Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finnish speaking parts of Finland) for academic research on new religious movements and alternative spirituality. The substantial aim is to, during the year 2012, publish an anthology that identifies the Nordic research front regarding the study of alternative spirituality, discusses it from a historical as well as from a future perspective, and discusses the relation to the international research front.

During 2011 a conference will be held for young Nordic reseachers on alternative spirituality. FINYARs members will be invited to the conference. 2010-10-26

New doctoral thesis in comparative religion by Pernilla Gardeberg, University of Lund. The thesis “Mirakel, mysterier och moraliteter. Från puritanism till New Age- en religionshistorisk studie av Helen Shucman och A Course in Miracles” will be defended Friday the 17th of December 2010 at 10.15 in sal 118 at CTR, Allhelgona Kyrkogata 8 in Lund. Opponent: Professor Liselotte Frisk, University of Dalarna.
